About Us

Rotary Club Delhi Safdarjung is one of the first women’s club formed in 1989, when women after decades of struggle were finally allowed to take membership of this exclusive male dominated organization.
RCDS received its charter in 1991 and is celebrating its 30th year. Rotary Club of Delhi Safdarjung has always led the way with its phenomenal predecessor Presidents and members in living the Rotary motto “service above self”. Comprising of a group of dedicated Professionals , Social workers, Doctors , & Entrepreneurs who have taken up the challenge to reduce the miseries of the underprivileged section of our society. Since its inception in 1991, our club has successfully completed various meaningful projects. Our thrust areas being polio eradication, alleviation of poverty, health concerns, literacy and education, combat hunger, water resource management, sanitation, the Rotary Blood Bank, Rotary Cancer Institute, Rotary Foundation, and avoidable blindness to name a few.
The Club has participated in Global Grant Projects and provided 3 dialysis machines for poor patients as well as a TB van to the district. Our club has earned a formidable reputation from the very beginning with many accolades. The year gone 2020-21 under the leadership of President Rtn. Mona Puri,  was a remarkably productive year and RCDS was recognized with multiple platinum awards for the work accomplished of which we are all very proud. We have completed several projects, which our club has taken up to benefit the society in areas of Health, Sanitation and provided equipment for those who are not only underprivileged but in addition are specially abled too, mentally, physically, suffering from autism, as well visual impairment.
RCDS have taken up projects for Providing essential skills for a segment enabling them to be able to fend for themselves and their families, with sewing and Computer training skills. Our sanitation and environmental projects have included installing a water cooler, and donated Rickshaw Wheelchairs to the Disabled in the slums of Srinivaspuri. In our endeavor to serve all, a solar water pump has been installed in Selakhari Village Dhauj Road for the use of abandoned animals. March 8, 2021, RCDS celebrated “The International Women’s Day” with an online webinar. The Eminent guest speakers- Actress Mahabano Mody Kotwal, Actress Sushma Seth, Ex-IPS Mr. Sachin Sridhar expressed their views on women empowerment – Perception/ Reality. The webinar was cohosted with other 2 other clubs. The event was covered by United Bharat News Paper and Approximately 265 participants benefitted from the event.
Another area in which we have a great deal of expertise is Thalassemia and have conducted many awareness webinars and camps. Our Rtn. Shobha Tuli is leading this arena with the various Ministries for more awareness and at the strategic and policy level in combating Thalassemia. It was indeed a proud moment for all of us when the past President Rtn. Mona Puri received “Governor’s Platinum President Award”2020-21 from the district.
Our activities are focused in serving humanity in areas where we can create an impact for the those who need it most.During the Rotary Year 23-24 also, under the leadership of President Rtn. Richa Sabharwal, the club proudly spearheaded over 130 projects, showcasing our unwavering dedication to making a meaningful impact. The club began the year by formalizing our partnership with Thalassemics India, setting the tone for a year of impactful initiatives.
Club’s calendar was packed with a consistent schedule of awareness and screening projects, aimed at addressing critical health issues in our community. From tree plantation drives to the adoption of 16 TB patients, sponsoring girls’ education, and providing essential support to organizations like MPM, every endeavor was guided by our mission to serve.
Club’s commitment to youth empowerment was evident through our collaboration with two Interact clubs, where club conducted numerous awareness, screening, and blood donation camps, alongside sessions focused on mental power development.
Recognizing the importance of early intervention, club initiated thalassemia screening for pregnant women during their first trimester, prioritizing maternal and child health.
Beyond healthcare, club embraced the spirit of unity by celebrating National Integration Days and holidays like Diwali, Christmas, and Holi, by distributing food packets and toys to underprivileged children, fostering a sense of joy and inclusivity.
Innovative projects like distributing umbrellas to street vendors in Delhi and NCR, and providing notebooks, underscored club’s commitment to addressing diverse needs within our community.
